Baby-sitter charged after 2-year-old found in street

A Tamaqua woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child she was baby-sitting.

On Feb. 18, Tamaqua police were dispatched to Our Family Mini Mart at 401 W. Broad St. after a 2-year-old girl was found wandering in the street. The child was wearing only a diaper.

A motorist driving west saw the child come into the street from between two parked cars and was able to stop before striking her. He then took the toddler to the mini mart and called police.

As officers spoke to the witness the child's grandfather and mother arrived and said the child was supposed to be in the care of Mandie Miletto, 24, of 409 W. Broad St. At Miletto's apartment police found the front door partially open and knocked, loudly, several times. A small boy, 3 to 4 years old, came to the door and said his mother was sleeping.

Miletto came out of a bedroom and told police she and the children had been napping. She was visibly upset when told the child had left her apartment and was walking in the street.

She was also charged with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
