Misunderstanding about Leiby's Restaurant

In response to the recent article by Donald R. Serfass in The Times News as well as reported by the media in other areas and as posted on Facebook, we, the Zimmerman family, would like to address a misunderstanding that has resulted. Members of the Zimmerman family are not involved in any manner with the reported reopening of Leiby's Restaurant.
We do not have, nor have we ever had, the website www.leibysrestaurant.com. This has been started by members of the Leiby family who are descendants of the original owner of Leiby's Dairy, who may be planning on reopening Leiby's Restaurant later this year.
The original Zimmerman family operated Leiby's Restaurant beginning with its opening on 1965. It was sold in 1991 to the Stillman family and managed by a member of the Zimmerman family until 2001. It was closed by the Stillman family in 2007 and was sold in June of 2008. It has remained closed since that time.
Leiby's ice cream and mix products, however, have continued to be manufactured by the Zimmerman family since 1964 beginning with Ronald and Kenneth Zimmerman and most recently and currently with owners Keith Zimmerman and William Parks, trading as Leiby's Dairy Inc. Floyd Zimmerman, owner along with brothers and owners Ken and Ron, managed the restaurant starting in 1965 until his retirement in 1991.
We certainly wish the potential new owners (the Leiby family) the very best in their endeavor and are very hopeful that the traditions that were established through the years at the restaurant during our tenure can be resurrected by them and established in our community for all to enjoy.
We have been very appreciative of all the wonderful comments we received from so many of you, our previous customers, as well as all of your best wishes to us. We could never have achieved such success and popularity without all of our loyal friends, patrons and employees through the years. Hopefully, the memories that you have shared will be experienced again.
