Diabetes management, training and support
Blue Mountain Health System will offer a series of classes on diabetes self-management training and support from 1 to 3 p.m. March 15, 22, 29 and April 5 at the Gnaden Huetten campus, 211 N. 12th St. in Lehighton.
The course will cover meal planning: how to count carbohydrates and plan healthy meals; exercise ideas: tips to keep active and find time to work out; the basics of monitoring: how to check your blood sugar, oral medications and insulin; complications: review ways to prevent neuropathy, eye disease, kidney problems and foot problems; changing behaviors: stress and coping; and resources for people with diabetes.
Medicare Part B covers 10 hours of initial group classes for a beneficiary who has been diagnosed with diabetes and/or who has not had formal training in the past.
