Man cited for drug paraphernalia
Coaldale Police cited John William Welfel, 24, of 150 Second St., Coaldale, after a traffic stop on April 8.
An officer on patrol saw Welfel driving a white Kia with a North Carolina license plate. The driver pulled out of a parking space, into the traffic lane, without using a turn signal. The Kia was then stopped in the first block of Second Street and a records check was run on Welfel.
The Schuylkill County Communications Center informed the officer that Welfel's driver's license is suspended.
In preparing to have the car towed, the officer noticed a black drawstring knapsack in the vehicle. Welfel initially denied the bag was his, but then admitted ownership. He agreed to allow the officer to search the bag.
Inside the bag were a tin container containing two syringes, an empty multicolor wax baggie, a spoon, tweezers and cotton swabs.
Welfel was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and making an improper turn.
