Police investigate second theft from fire victims

A construction crew began securing fire damaged buildings in Tamaqua on Tuesday after thieves made a second trip to remove any valuables possibly left inside.

The second theft at 118 Center St., Tamaqua, was reported to police at 7:37 p.m. on April 8. This time, thieves went through the bedrooms, opening dresser drawers, removing jewelry and a coin collection. The first theft involved tools, taken from the basement, on March 31.

The total value of the stolen items was approximated at more than $1,000. One of the jewelry pieces was a cameo necklace with sentimental value. It was engraved with the words "25 years at Harvard University" and was handed down from the victim's mother.
