Plant walk scheduled at Environmental Center
The Carbon County Environmental Education Center has scheduled a spring plant hike for 10 a.m. Saturday. All ages and interest levels are welcome.
Dr. Susan Munch of Albright College has literally written the book on identifying and understanding the area's "lower" plants, such as ferns, mosses and lichens. She will lead participants on an easy walk in search of whatever may be blooming, sprouting or emerging this time of year.
Trails are expected to be wet. Hikers should dress accordingly and are encouraged to bring field guides and hand lenses if possible.
The program is free for CCEEC members. A nominal donation is request of nonmembers. For more information or to register, call 570-645-8597.
The environmental education center is located at 151 E. White Bear Drive in Summit Hill, just outside of Jim Thorpe, along the Lentz Trail Highway.
