Tamaqua police have cited Bruce S. Kunkel, 51, of 416 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, after an incident at the Speedway station, 307 Center St., on April 2.

An employee of the business contacted police at 5:45 a.m. to say a man, "covered in blood," had come into the gas station saying he was being chased.

Kunkel was in the restroom when officers arrived. He had cleaned up the blood but had scrapes on his face, neck and arms, telling officers there was a man hiding by the Mermon Motors building. A check of the area was made but no one was found.

Kunkel told police he had been attacked by several men but was able to fight them off. He also admitted drinking alcohol and taking methamphetamine.

He was cited for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
