Rear-end crash on I-81

State police at Frackville reported investigating a rear-end crash on Friday along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, involving a truck and sport utility vehicle.

Troopers said Harold D. Penrod, 32, of Wyoming, Luzerne County, was northbound in the left lane operating a Volvo truck while Vladimir S. Prive, 69, of Rotonda West, Florida, was in the right lane driving a 2009 Lexus RX350. Both were approaching the on-ramp from Route 54 when a fire truck responding to an emergency entered from the on ramp.

Penrod applied his brakes slowing abruptly. Prive also applied his brakes but was unable to slow sufficiently and entered the left lane and rear-ended the truck. Prive and his passenger, Lyudmila A. Prive, 69, same address, complained of dizziness and were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton Campus by Ryan Township ambulance. Penrod was not injured. Damages were minor to moderate to the two vehicles, troopers said.
