Tamaqua man hurt in attempted robbery

A Tamaqua man was injured in an attempted robbery between noon and 12:44 p.m. Saturdayon the railroad tracks along the Lehigh River in Lower Towamensing Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said Jason Blake, 23, suffered injuries caused by a knife-wielding man who attempted to rob him.

Police said Blake reported the attempted robbery and aggravated assault incident after a white man, believed to be between 20-30 years of age, attempted to take items from him in the area of the off-ramp to Palmerton from Route 248.

The assailant is further described as having dark hair and a beard, and was wearing a red flannel shirt and blue jeans.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning the identity of the man to contact them at 610-681-1850.
