Tamaqua, Marian pick up golf wins
Tamaqua and Marian managed golf wins against local rivals in Wednesday's scholastic sports action.
BOYS SOCCER
Moravian Academy- No. Lehigh
The Lions scored twice in the first half and twice again in the second half to beat the Bulldogs by a 4-0 score in Colonial League action.
Jack Painter, Tanner Shane, Tom Bloxan and Kevin Loughlin all found the net for Moravian.
Nick Miller had nine saves in goal for the Bulldogs.
Lehighton-Blue Mountain
Cam Greenawalt scored four goals to lift the Eagles to a 5-3 victory over the Indians in a Schuylkill League Division I match.
Joe Marks scored twice for the Indians, while Dan Baka added the other.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Marian-Bethlehem Catholic
The Fillies dropped a non-league match to the Golden Hawks in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-16.
Maureen Kloap had 10 kills and six digs for the Fillies.
Lehighton-PM West
The Lady Indians defeated the Panthers in three straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-19 and 25-17 in a non-league match.
The Indians (2-0, 1-0) were led by Katie Higgns with seven aces, seven kills and two digs. Alyssa Jordan chipped in with three aces, eight kills and a block, while Andrea Schaeffer had one ace and six kills.
Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven
The Lady Raiders took down the Hurricanes in three sets by scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16.
Carly Kosciolek had five kills, two aces, three digs and three blocks for Tamaqua. Mackenzie McVicker added five kills and three blocks, while Alexis Baddick had three kills, four aces and two digs.
Tamaqua also won the JV game by scores of 25-15 and 25-18.
Jim Thorpe-Williams Valley
Jim Thorpe managed to get its first win for rookie coach Victoria Nicholsby beating Williams Valley 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 in a non-league match.
Erin Shigo had six kills, four aces and 13 digs for the Olympians. Jillian Peterson had five kills and five aces, while Kelsey Carroll had 34 assists and Alex McGinley 20 digs.
CROSS COUNTRY
CMVT-Jim Thorpe-Marian
The Olympians went undefeated today in a tri-meet with Marian and Columbia Montour. Marian did beat CMVT in both boys and girls action.
The girls were led by Delana Nalesnik of Jim Thorpe with a time of 21:33. Tina Capparell of Marian finished second in 22:26 and Nicole Capparell came in third.
Dylan Bucior of Jim Thorpe finished first with a time of 17:55. Jim Thorpe's Ben Saxon came in second, as Chris Valdez, also an Olympian runner, was third.

The Blue Raiders swept the Hurricanes and Hilltoppers in both boys and girls meets.
Tamaqua boys defeated Schuylkill Haven 15-42 and Nativity 15-50.
The Blue Raiders took the first five places with Adam Melnick crossing the finish line ahead of the field in 16:19.
The Lady Raiders beat the Hurricanes 15-50 and the Golden Girls 15-50.
Tamaqua took the first four places with Monika Shimko winning in 19:00.
