Tamaqua soliciting
Tamaqua Police cited four people for soliciting without a license on June 29.
Officers received a call at 4:22 p.m. concerning a suspicious male in the 100 block of Lafayette Street. They found Ricardo Flowers, 27, of Reading, who said he was working for SFE Energy, selling electric plans for PPL. When asked if he had a soliciting permit, Flowers replied that his boss had told him he didn't need one.
While speaking with Flowers, the officer learned there were several more people going door to door for the company. Flowers was advised to call his boss to come back to Tamaqua, pick up the employees and get a permit if they wanted to continue going door to door.
One half-hour later, two more SFE Energy employees were found soliciting on Hunter Street. A fourth employee was found going door to door at 9:06 p.m.
All four employees were given citations, including Flowers, Virginia Lee Nolan, 25, of Oley; Jordan T. Schaeffer, 21, of Mohrsville; and Simon Sae Yoon, 27, also of Mohrsville.
Police say SFE Energy is a sub contractor for Platinum Advertising in Temple and the borough does require permits for anyone soliciting door to door. If someone comes to your door, trying to sell you something or change your electric provider, ask to see their permit. if the vendor does not have one, call police at 570-668-5000.
