Published July 13. 2015 12:30PM

Two people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 1 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of routes 895 and 443, in East Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Carl A. Nester, 87, of New Ringgold, driving a 1998 Oldsmobile, was attempting to make a left turn onto 895 from 443 and failed to yield to a 2012 Kia Forte driven by Donna D. Simmons, 60, of Shoemakersville, Berks County.

The Forte struck the Oldsmobile broadside in the area of the driver's door. After impact the Oldsmobile spun 90 degrees in a counterclockwise direction before traveling about 400 feet backward down a grassy embankment, coming to final rest in a muddy swamp facing east. After impact the Forte continued about 15 feet west and came to rest facing west.

Nester and Simmons sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street, Pottsville. A passenger with Simmons, Paul H. Simmons, 64, same address, was not injured.

Volunteers from the New Ringgold Fire Company assisted troopers at the scene. Troopers cited Nester for the crash.
