Driver facing DUI after crash

A Columbia County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:26 p.m. on Friday along Mountain Road in North Union Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Ricky J. Hons Jr., 30, of Bloomsburg, was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus northwest when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and attempted to swerve to avoid a deer. The Ford began to slide counterclockwise and went onto the south berm into a ditch. The undercarriage of the car struck a large rock in the ditch, struck two trees and then came to rest.

Hons was injured and taken by helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Troopers termed his injuries as minor.

A further investigation revealed Hons was driving under the influence of alcohol and was over the legal limit, troopers said. He will be charged with DUI and summary motor vehicle code violations.
