High school parking

The Tamaqua Area School District will have 74 parking spaces available for students for the 2015-16 school year. Applications will be available the week of July 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Completed forms must be returned to the senior high office no later than Aug. 3.

A lottery will be held Aug. 5 to determine which students receive a parking permit as well as space assignments. Members of the senior class will be given priority. Any open spaces will then be assigned to juniors. Students will be notified by mail if they have been selected to receive a permit.

Permits will be issued from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 in the senior high school office.

Cressona Band

The Cressona Band continues to perform free band concerts in our area.

The next event will be at 7 p.m. July 29 at the East End Playground on Mountain Avenue in Tamaqua. Rain date will be July 30.

The band will also perform from 3-5 p.m. Aug. 2 at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.

Both concerts will feature selections by the Junior Cressona Band.

The public, and their lawn chairs, are welcome.

Library book club

The Tamaqua Public Library's next monthly book discussion for adults will be at 6 p.m. July 27.

This month's selection is "Hide and Seek," written by Fern Michaels, a New York Times best-selling author. The book is the latest in a series of books featuring a group of friends known as the Sisterhood and their efforts to serve justice to those who think they are above the law, with a little romance on the side.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. Summer Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday through Friday, Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., softball games at 6:45 and 8 p.m. at the West Penn Grove; Thursday, softball game at 6:45 at Lehighton High School.

Closing services for VBS will be held during the 10 a.m. worship service on July 26, which will be held at West Penn Grove.

Calvary Evangelical

All services and activities for Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, through Labor Day.

The Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m. This week's session will be followed by "pie night." bring your favorite pie to share. Drinks, utensils and ice cream will be provided.

The "Dixie Echoes," a Southern Gospel group will present a concert at 7 p.m. July 25 at the tabernacle. the group is from Pensacola, Florida.
