Monroe driver facing multiple charges
A Monroe County driver is facing charges following an incident that began at 12:08 a.m. on Wednesday along Long Pond Road in Tunkhannock Township.
Pocono Mountain Regional police said they were dispatched to a residence along the road for a report of a male smashing out windows of a truck. Officers were told the caller was still in the truck as the windows were being smashed.
On scene the victim said he was sleeping in the sleeper part of the tractor trailer when he heard a loud noise and then observed a man hitting his truck with a machete. The man then left the scene after smashing the windows.
Police then observed a minivan turning onto Kuhenbeaker Road. Moments later police heard what they believed was a crash and people arguing.
Police responded to the area and saw the minivan driver speeding off at a high rate of speed when he saw police. A short chase ensued and the van was stopped.
The driver was identified as Angel Marquez, 56, of Smith Lane, Long Pond. A check of the van revealed a machete inside. Marquez was intoxicated, police said. He suffered injuries in smashing the glass and was transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was later placed in the county prison in Snydersville.
He has been charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police and driving under suspension. Police added that a charge of criminal mischief is pending after the damages are determined to the truck.
