TEPTO to meet
The new school year is just around the corner and it's time for the Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization to ramp up efforts on behalf of the students.
The first meeting of the 2015-2016 school year is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Aug. 18, in the Tamaqua elementary School library.
Parents and guardians of all Tamaqua elementary students are welcome to attend.
Field to fork
Schuylkill County Master Gardeners will offer a free learning experience for county residents to learn more about how vegetables go from the fields to the dinner table.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 22 at Hope Hill Lavender Farm, 2375 Panther Valley Road in Pottsville. Participants will learn about growing vegetables almost anywhere as well as growing varieties of lavender. Bring your questions and the experts will provide answers.
There will also be samples of fresh, locally grown produce.
This free event will be held rain or shine.

Middle school news
The Tamaqua Area Middle School will hold an open house and sixth-grade orientation on Aug. 17 in preparation for the 2015-16 school year. The time will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Middle school Principal Christopher Czapla encourages parents of all new and returning students to attend. They will have the opportunity to meet their children's teachers and to obtain information concerning the curriculum and expectations for the students.

Homeroom assignments are posted on the school's front door. The school year begins on Aug. 24.
Calvary Evangelical
All services and activities for Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, through Labor Day.
The Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday.
Special music will be presented by the "New Quartet."
Sunday school classes will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.
An hour of praise and prayer is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
A family concert will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.
St. Peter's
The schedule for St. Peter's, Mantzville, is as follows:

Zion Church
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Sunday School is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.
This Sunday is the deadline for reservations for the Aug. 20 trip to the Reading Phillies "Faith Night."
The annual church picnic is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Leiby's Grove.
