Carbon driver facing DUI count

A Carbon County driver is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance following a vehicle stop by Mahoning Township police.

Police said on July 13, at 7 p.m. a Honda Civic was stopped for passing in a no passing area on Route 443. The driver, Stephen Trotman, 22, of Lehighton was found under the influence of controlled substances.

Police said a blood test showed the presence of amphetamine, methamphetamine, clonazepam, 7-amino clonazepam, alprazolam, and morphine. Trotman has been charged with three counts of DUI and one count each of no passing zones and careless driving.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 9.
