Driver escapes injury following vehicle fire

A Schuylkill County driver escaped injury after his vehicle caught fire.

The incident occurred about 10:24 a.m. on Friday along Sweet Arrow Lake Road, in Washington Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Robert S. Bain, 55, of Tremont, was driving a 2000 Ford Focus westbound when he heard a loud "pop" then saw a fire start near the engine compartment. Bain pulled to the side of the road and exited the vehicle as it continued to burn. The fire was extinguished by the North End Fire Company.
