Published August 06. 2015 12:38PM

A Darby, Delaware County, man was caught using a counterfeit $100 bill in Rush Township on Aug. 2.

Elliott W. Gaye, 30, tried to pass the phony bill at My Hometown Mini Mart and the Hometown Turkey Hill Minit Mart shortly after 7 a.m.

Township police were alerted and given a description of the vehicle in which Gaye was a passenger. They were able to stop the vehicle in the parking lot at McDonald's.

A search of the vehicle turned up one counterfeit $100 bill, a small amount of marijuana and $1,116 in cash.

Officers were able to determine that Gaye was the person who passed a phony $100 bill at the Hazle Township Walmart earlier that morning.

Sgt. Duane Frederick contacted the U.S. Secret Service once it was determined the bill was counterfeit.
