Man charged with DUI
A Nesquehoning man has been charged by Coaldale Police in connection to an incident on July 28. The charges were filed after police received the results of blood tests.
An officer was on patrol at 2:51 a.m. that day when he observed a silver Kia traveling east on Water Street (Route 209). The driver of the Kia failed to dim the car's high beams, then crossed the center line into the westbound lane several times. The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Kerry Freedman, 40, of 4 Rhume St., Nesquehoning.
Freedman exhibited several signs of possible intoxication and was given, and failed, three field sobriety tests. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital - Miners Campus for blood tests. The test result were positive for alcohol, 0.077 percent, which is under the legal limit of 0.08, and for morphine, a drug for which Freedman did not have a prescription.
He was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and a controlled substance.
