'Taste of Elegance' Chef competition

Published October 28. 2015 04:00PM

What better way for a "foodie" to spend an evening than meeting local chefs and sampling new pork recipes?

The Pennsylvania Taste of Elegance competition, hosted by the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council, on Nov. 15 at the PPL Center, 701 Hamilton St, Allentown, will feature the creativity and talent of 10 Pennsylvania chefs.

The first-place chef receives $1,000 and an all expense paid trip to attend the 2016 National Pork Summit at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena, California.

Sponsored by Alderfer Meats/Leidy's Simply Delicious Pork and PA Preferred, the event is open to the public and will give food lovers the opportunity to meet the 10 competing local chefs and taste their delicious pork entrées.

In addition, Spectra's Ken Hall, PPL Center executive chef, will prepare a variety of pork appetizers including: house-made chorizo stuffed peppers; garlic studded pork tenderloin tortilla with tomatillo sauce; Jamaican jerk roasted pork shoulder with pineapple mango sauce; and caramelized, smoked pork belly sliders with Vietnamese barbecue sauce.

Tickets are required to attend and available in advance and at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania.

Admission will include a wine sampling from Franklin Hill Vineyard. A cash bar will also be available.

The schedule is:

• 2-4 p.m. - EntrĂ©es judged. This is closed to the media and the public.

• 4:30 p.m. - Media preview.

• 5-7 p.m. - Doors open for public reception including chef meet and greet and entrĂ©e sampling.
