Experience matters

Published October 21. 2015 04:00PM

There was a car accident in the late '80s in which a young teenager had died.

My dad, the chief deputy coroner, responded to the scene. He then needed to speak with the grieving family on the loss of their child. Afterward, he went home to his family to inform his son of the loss of one of his classmates and a friend. This was a situation where he dealt with a distraught family that he knew and his son, along with a group of friends.

As a past chief deputy and a current deputy coroner, Robert W. Miller Jr. has the experience dealing with all types of deaths. He has investigated over 800 natural deaths, drownings, multiple types of accidents, burn victims, overdoses, hangings and other types of suicides, deaths due to abuse and neglect, and homicides.

These have ranged in age from elderly, middle age, young adults to teens, youths and infants. The families he has helped with the loss of their loved ones live in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, other states including California, as well as overseas.

He takes time answering phone calls and questions from the families regarding the death of their loved one at any time of the day or night. He is sympathetic toward the families during this difficult time in their life. As time passes, he is often thanked for the kindness and helpfulness he had shown them during their time of loss.

I know over the past 27 years, I have had the opportunity, as his daughter, to witness firsthand both his professionalism and compassion when dealing with grieving families. All these points serve to prove that his qualifications make him the best person for the job.

Vote Deputy Coroner Robert W. Miller Jr. for coroner because "Experience and Qualifications Matter."

Sincerely,
