Minor injury in Schuylkill crash

A minor injury was reported in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 3:44 p.m. on Sunday along Wade Road in Norwegian Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Alicia M. Smith, 20, of Pottsville, was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo eastbound when she went off onto the south berm and struck a small ditch. Smith panicked and tried to overcompensate but lost control. The vehicle re-entered the eastbound lane and traveled northeast for about 70 feet through the two travel lanes before entering the north berm.

The Jeep then traveled along the north berm for about 48 feet up an embankment and flipped over onto the passenger's side. It continued to travel in a northeast direction along the embankment before coming to rest facing west on its roof.

A passenger, Zachary J. Bensinger, 18, also of Pottsville, sustained a minor injury but did not require immediate medical attention. Troopers said Smith was cited for the crash.
