Schuylkill man cited for theft in McAdoo

Published December 01. 2015 04:00PM

An Audenreid man was cited by McAdoo police for retail theft on Nov. 22.

A clerk at the Fegley Mini Mart on South Kennedy Drive called police after witnessing an older man, wearing glasses and a green sweatshirt, take a box of string cheese from a cooler. The man then left the store, leaving behind the white Ford truck he had parked in the mini mart's parking lot.

The doors of the truck were lettered with the name and phone number of a hauling company. When the officer contacted the hauling company he was told the truck was at D&H Auto in Audenreid for repair.

The officer went to the repair shop, but no one answered his knocks on the door. An unopened package of string cheese was plainly visible on the ground.

Police then called the repair shop's phone number and spoke with Dean Hoats, who was asked to step outside the shop.

Hoats said he took the cheese sticks because he didn't have enough money to pay for them. He left the Ford behind when it failed to start.
