CHILI COOK-OFF: Calling all chefs

Galen Glen Winery, 255 Winter Mountain Drive, Andreas, is calling all chefs - professional or home cooks - to enter its third annual chili cook-off to benefit the West Penn Fire Company.

There is no entry fee and the competition is being held Jan. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. at the winery. Interested chefs can contact or visit the winery to receive an entry form. The only requirement for participating chefs is the use of Galen Glen Chambourcin or Cellar Red in the recipe.

The competition is limited to only six chefs and each entrant will receive a $25 Galen Glen gift card. The winner receives a $100 gift card and the second and third place winners receive wine and glasses. The winner also will have his or her recipe featured in October of 2016 for a Lehigh Valley Wine Trail event.

In 2015, the competition drew over 300 visitors who acted as judges for the chili by voting for their favorite. Tasting room manager Kathy Matson says this year's contest will be slightly different for visitors.

"This year we are charging $1 to try the chili and vote for the winner. We will be matching this $1 donation and all proceeds will go to our local fire company. Chili and firefighters are the perfect pairing."
