Tamaqua woman hurt in Lehigh crash

A Tamaqua woman sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10:45 a.m. Thursday on Route 309 in Lynn Township.

State police at the Fogelsville barracks said Catherine Smith, 51, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche northbound at a speed greater than was reasonable and prudent for existing conditions of rain and a wet roadway. Police said the operator lost control of the Avalanche, which spun clockwise, slid off the north berm of the roadway and impacted a tree.

The woman was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
