Man strikes officer responding to call

A Tobyhanna man is charged with assaulting an officer after police responded to a domestic incident at 11:46 p.m. Saturday at 9029 Idlewild Drive in Coolbaugh Township.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said Thomas Amaro III, 37, address above, is charged with simple assault, resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Police said when they responded to the domestic incident Amaro began to yell and tried to get past officers to interfere with the investigation. Police said he continued to act aggressively and when police attempted to stop him, he struck an officer's arm in a downward forceful motion with a closed fist. Police had to use a stun gun on the man in order to take him into custody.
