Adult Day Care
The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for February, including a special Valentine's Day breakfast and party on Feb. 12.
Other activities for the month include: Monday, Groundhog Day craft session; Tuesday, painting class; Wednesday, sing-along with Audrey Christ; Feb. 11, baking day and special guest; Feb. 18, Salvation Army service; Feb. 20, visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten class; Feb. 23, movement to music.
In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.
Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.
Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center, becoming a member of the board of directors, or services provided, may call 570-668-6577 or visit Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Book club
A new book discussion club, the Bucket List Club, is being formed in the Tamaqua area. The group will meet once a month, with the first meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St.
The first book to be discussed will be "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. The novel is set in a sleepy southern town which has to deal with a crisis. First published in 1960, it became an instant best-seller and classic. Lee won a Pulitzer Prize for the novel in 1961. It was later made into an Academy Award winning movie.

St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school class will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 10:30 a.m. and the bell choir will rehearse at noon.
Activities for next week include: Monday, worship and music committee meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir meets at 6 p.m., finance committee meets at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.
Weekly prayer
Beginning in February, the Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network will sponsor a series of weekly prayer meetings at the New Life Assembly of God Church on Schuylkill Avenue. The meetings will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday for the next three months.

St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school begins at the end of the junior sermon.
Also on Sunday, a time of fellowship and choir rehearsal will be held following the worship service.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Bible study session at 6:30 p.m.
