Consolidation news
The Growing Place Child Care Centers have consolidated its programs into two of the local elementary schools within the Pleasant Valley School District that have been closed due to low enrollment. Staff is thrilled to have infants through school age children together in one building.
The families enjoy the school setting where each age group has its own classroom. The older children are thrilled to see the infants and toddlers each day.
The Growing Place is in the Chestnuthill Elementary School in Brodheadsville and the Polk Elementary School in Kresgeville. Each of the buildings is now bustling with 125 families passing through their respective doors each day.
PVEN meets
The board of directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet in public session at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Food pantry open
Effort UMC's Supplemental Food Resource Center, a ministry for feeding those in need in the West End, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required, and families must be going through emergency or other short-term situations that are not eligible for local, county or state programs and are limited to a 12-week lifetime duration per family.
Anniversary Mass
Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish will celebrate an Anniversary Mass at noon Sunday for all married couples of the parish with a very special vow renewal ceremony.
The parish wants to celebrate the beautiful and important vocation of marriage. All are welcome to McCawley Hall for cake and coffee after Mass. Couples having a special anniversary of 1, 25 or 50 years who would like to have a special acknowledgment at this Mass are asked to call the office at 610-681-6137.
Special collection
This Sunday and Feb. 22, the congregation and friends of Salem-St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville will have a Fill the Can event to benefit the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Community Service Center.
Donations of hygiene items, such as deodorant and shampoo, will be received.
Diversity Taskforce
Pleasant Valley's Diversity Taskforce is scheduled to meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Young at Heart
Club president of the Young at Heart, Janet Bayer, reminds all that the group's next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Young at Heart meet every first and third Tuesday of the month at the Polk Township Fire Hall in Kresgeville.
Piecemakers meet
Piecemakers, meeting at Cornerstone Community Church in Kresgeville, is a time for learning quilting and sharing crafting. Teens and adults are invited to join. The group meets twice a month.
Those times are the first Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the third Monday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Local quilting teacher Ann Marie Lambert will teach and encourage all in their quilting.
Although it is Presidents Day on Monday, the group will meet, weather permitting. Any cancellation will be posted on the Cornerstone website, www.cornerstonecommunity.org.
Attendees are asked to bring their own sewing machine and a project to work from, or they can use a provided prepackaged quilt kit to donate as a finished project to Quilts for Kids.
Those who are not quilters can bring a craft to share and join fellowship of the group.
Registrations are requested for these free classes, but a welcome is extended to those without preregistration.

Middlecreek Church
The Little Church with Lots of Love, as it calls itself, Middlecreek Christian Church on Dorshimer Road in Kresgeville offers adult Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., the worship service at 10:30 a.m. and children's Sunday school 10:30 a.m.

Kiwanis meet
The Kiwanis Club of the West End meets Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at Cherry's Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.
In the event the Pleasant Valley School District has a delay or is closed, there is no meeting.
Ashes to Go
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will again offer Ashes to Go on Ash Wednesday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot as well as having an in-church service at 7:30 p.m.
PAC meeting
Pleasant Valley High School's PAC meeting will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Prayer shawl ministry
Effort UMC Prayer Shawl Ministry meetings are held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Those who knit or crochet or would like to learn are invited to join the ladies who would love to welcome others and have them join the group. The next meeting is Tuesday.
PTO meeting
Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO meeting is set for 4:30 p.m.
Chestnuthill supervisors
The next meeting of the Chestnuthill Township board of supervisors will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Planning Commission will meet the next day at 7 p.m.
Special eye program
Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will welcome the Center for Vision Loss on Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. The center will present information on eye care and will offer free vision screening.

If the schools are closed due to inclement weather, the senior center will be closed also.
The menu for the center is roast turkey on Friday and cheese lasagna for next Wednesday.

Blood drive
Another Miller-Keystone blood drive will be held at the Western Pocono Community Library next Wednesday, beginning at noon.
Noon service
Salem-St. Paul's in Kresgeville will offer Ash Wednesday services at noon and at 7 p.m. with the Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion.
Meeting changed
The Western Pocono Lions Club has changed its February dinner meeting from Feb. 18 to Feb. 19 due to Ash Wednesday. The meeting is still being held at 7 p.m. at the Old Mill Pizza Restaurant in Sciota.
PVI PTO meeting
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the PVI library.
A guest speaker will come and show the basics of CPR and other lifesaving tips for parents. Child care will be available.
WELL meeting
The February league meeting for the West End Little League will be held at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville.
Everyone is encouraged to attend.
