D.A.R.E. challenge
The Tamaqua Area D.A.R.E. Challenge will be held March 7 in the Tamaqua Elementary School gym. There will be two sessions, from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m.
Volunteers will be needed for the event, as well as for setup and cleanup.
The gym will be set up from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 6, and at 8:30 a.m. March 7. Cleanup will be done after the challenge, from 4 to 6 p.m.
D.A.R.E. graduation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on April 19 in the Tamaqua Middle School Auditorium. Set up for graduation will be at 9 a.m. that day and volunteers will be needed.
Donations to help defray the cost of the Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education program may be sent in care of Olga Williams, 209 Brown St., Tamaqua, PA 18252.
Soup social
Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., will host an outreach soup social, from 4 to 6 p.m. March 7 as part of its monthly "Feeding the Hungry" program. The public is welcome to attend and share in the free soup, friendship and God's love.
Library news
The Tamaqua Public Library's Teen/Young Adult Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. on March 16. The theme is "Exploring the World in Books." This month will concentrate on Ireland and St. Patrick.
New members are always welcome.

GriefShare
Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church will host a GriefShare program designed to assist those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The course is biblically based, but nondenominational.
Meetings will begin on Wednesday and will then be held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for the next 13 weeks. Meetings will be held in the church conference room at 223 E. Broad St.

St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school begins at the end of the junior sermon.
Also on Sunday, a time of fellowship and choir rehearsal will be held following the worship service.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, Consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Bible study session at 6:30 p.m. and bell choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
