Historical society

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society meeting is set for tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. at Chestnuthill Township Park, Brodheadsville.

It will be Show and Tell Night. Attendees are asked to bring an item, tell the story and pass it around.

Annual dues for 2015 can be paid now.

Free help

The Pleasant Valley Community Outreach is an outreach of the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church in Brodheadsville. It offers a free meal on Monday nights at 4:30 p.m. to whoever comes. PVAC also has a clothes closet for those folks and bread from the bread factory, all free of charge. Attendees do not have to be part of the church. Anyone is welcome. Registration is not required.

Lenten services

Effort UMC's Wednesday evening services will be held in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. and each week the message will be given by a different person. Before the service a Lenten study will be held, beginning at 6 p.m., based on "24 hours that Changed the World," by Adam Hamilton.

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gilbert, offers "Discovering Christ The Joy of the Gospel and the New Evangelization Series." Sessions run every Wednesday evening from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. with dinner and worship through prayer and music. To register, contact the church office at 610-681-6137 or churchoffice@qopchurch.org

Salem UCC, Gilbert, will host a community Lenten service for the churches worshipping cooperatively, including Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, Kresgeville; Jerusalem UCC, Trachsville; St. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown; and Jerusalem Lutheran, Trachsville.

The theme for the series is "The Parables of Jesus." Pastor Brian Holben will present the message.

A soup supper will be served at 6 p.m. Participants may bring a sandwich. Drinks and dessert are provided. A freewill offering will be taken.

St. John's Lutheran, Merwinsburg Road, Effort, is hosting a midweek Lenten soup supper today at 6:30 p.m., followed by service at 7:30 p.m., weather permitting. The church phone number is 570-629-4309.

Rotary Club

The West End Rotary Club will have a planning session at its Thursday morning meeting. The club meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Chestnuthill's Chris Eckert will be the speaker at next week's meeting.

Comprehensive planning

The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk Comprehensive Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building.

PAC meeting

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PAC meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday.

School board meets

The Pleasant Valley School School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the administration building in Brodheadsville.

Chestnuthill Seniors

The menu for Friday's lunch for the Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, is macaroni and cheese.

Little League

West End Little League has rescheduled its baseball tryouts to Friday.

West End Missions

Free meals are offered by West End Missions each Tuesday and Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert.

Dog adoption day

Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold a dog adoption day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, at Ace Hardware, Route 209, Brodheadsville, next to Dunkleberger's.

Many young dogs will be available for folks to meet. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit before adoption.

Tourism topic

Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Homes in Kunkletown, will host a free event: The History of Monroe County Series The History of Tourism in the Poconos and What's New For 2015 presented by the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Ross Township

The supervisors of Ross Township are slated to meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the municipal building in Saylorsburg.

Chamber committee

The West End Committee of the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce will meet at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

PMC's Geoffrey Roche chairs the committee.

Eldred Township

The supervisors for Eldred Township are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.

Blood drive

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, hosts a Miller-Keystone blood drive every Wednesday, beginning at noon.

Chocolate Delights

A ladies chocolate festival will be held at Cornerstone Community Church in Kresgeville beginning at 2 p.m. March 7. Limited free tickets are available, although a love offering will be accepted during the event.

To be included are a guest speaker, door prizes, favors, recipes and more. Tickets are limited to the first 150 women. Call 610-681-3534 for tickets.

Soccer league

The West End Soccer League board meeting will be held beginning at 7 p.m. March 19 at Shop-Rite's Community Room in Brodheadsville.
