In defense of the Resurrection

Published April 04. 2015 09:00AM

Dear Editor,

Historically there are many more records regarding the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ than most other renowned people. Not only is there abundant historical evidence, but there is also ongoing living proof of the church he founded and a preservation of his living word known as the Bible.

After being attacked for many centuries, both have survived. The ongoing influence that Christianity has on our world is evidenced by the many charitable works, ministries and hospitals operated in his name. Christianity has been influential in shaping music and the arts, and is the motivating force behind many heroic acts of courage. Also the development of civilization follows the gospel of Jesus Christ.

But all of this is still the outward physical evidence; it goes deeper. God is a spirit and must be worshipped in spirit and in truth by faith. He that comes to God must believe the he is and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. Jesus Christ, the living savior, is the only way to know God the father.

Now we must respond to the gift. Love is a choice. God tells us to choose life. (Deuteronomy 30:19). Why do some choose to not believe? God's word tells us it is because "men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil." (John 3:19b).

Respectfully,

Barbara J. H.
