A Monroe County man is facing charges following an incident at the Walmart store in Mount Pocono.

Pocono Mountain Regional police were dispatched to the store at 11:23 p.m. on April 22 to a report of a male in custody for retail theft.

On scene officers found Bernard Shamel, 29, of Tobyhanna, being detained by store security. When officers attempted to arrest Shamel, he began to physically resist their efforts. A stun gun was deployed by police to gain control of Shamel.

He was arrested and charged with retail theft, resisting arrest, simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Colleen Mancuso, of Brodheadsville, and committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of $2,000 bail.
