Man found asleep in apartment lobby
A Tamaqua man chose the wrong place to sleep on April 16.
Tamaqua police were dispatched to the Majestic House Apartment Complex, 201 E. Broad St., at 4:48 a.m. They found John J. Kamant, 54, sleeping on the floor in the lobby. Kamant had made himself comfortable by removing his boots and rolling up his sweatshirt to use as a pillow. There was a strong odor of alcohol in the lobby, coming from Kamant.
When officers woke him he had slurred speech and a staggered gait. He was transported back to the station and placed in a cell, where he went back to sleep after saying his mother had kicked him out of her house and he had nowhere else to go.
He was released at 7 a.m. with a citation for public drunkenness.
