Disturbance leads to drug charges

Published May 08. 2015 04:00PM

A disturbance in Tamaqua on April 4 resulted in criminal charges for a New Ringgold woman.

Officers were dispatched to 225 Pine St. at 9:18 p.m. for a disturbance in progress. Once on scene, police were directed to East Union Street, where a man and a woman could be seen, and heard, arguing in the street. They were identified as Samantha Jo Whah, 26, of 5 Chain Circle, New Ringgold, and John R. Muffley, 34, whose last known address was 245 Van Gelder St., Tamaqua.

Muffley told the officer they were arguing over Whah's drug abuse. She said they were arguing because he was jealous that she had a male friend at her flower shop.

While officers were conducting a consent search of Whah's purse, she placed a cigarette pack on the curb. Inside that pack was a crystal type rock, which field tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also found a small sandwich-size bag, filled with green vegetable matter in the pocket of her hoodie.

Whah faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, pending the results of lab tests.
