Teen readers
The Tamaqua public Library will Summer Reading programs for children of all ages.
For teens and young adults, ages 12 to 19, the program will begin Friday and be held every other Friday until Aug. 21. Times will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The theme will be to "Unmask" the heroes within everyone. Incentives will be offered for reading and volunteering.

Summer concerts
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce kicks off its free Summer Concert Series this Thursday with a concert by Fred Douglas (oldies). The concerts are held from 6 to 8 p.m. on select Thursdays on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station throughout the summer season.
Other scheduled concerts include: June 25, Christopher Dean Band (rhythm and blues); July 9, It Takes Two (oldies); July 23, BC Combo (blues); Aug. 6, Fraser Thomas (acoustic jazz, blues and pop); Aug. 20, Steve Brosky and Jimmy Myers (acoustic blues); Sept. 3, Diaspora (classic rock).

West Penn VFW
West Penn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5069 will meet today at 7 p.m. to install officers for 2015-2016. The meeting will be held at West Penn Park.
All members are encouraged to attend.
Cressona Band
The Cressona Band will perform at the ABC Tamaqua Hi-Rise, 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua at 7 p.m. today, sponsored by Dr. Richard Chwastiak and Shafer's Pharmacy.
The performance will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear. The public is welcome to attend.
Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met June 4 at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. The meeting was attended by 67 members and one guest.
President Melody Weicker conducted the business session, and secretary Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading, "It's a Wonderful World."
Nellie Wenzel was added to the sick list. Reports were offered by treasurer Penny Schlorf and secretary Feane. Helene Clouser and Helen Miller were welcomed back.
Upcoming activities will include: trip to the Mohegan Sun on June 15; farm market vouchers to be distributed on June 17 at the Tamaqua Salvation Army; and flu shots to be given in September.
The group meets at 1 p.m. every Thursday. The next meeting will be on June 11.
Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The YMCA is handicap accessible.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a Vacation Bible School planning session will be held at 11:45 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, growth group motorcycle ride at 10 a.m.
