Woman fined $50 for stolen candy
A $1.99 pack of Kit Kat minis will cost a Tamaqua woman $50.
Tamaqua police were called to the Fegley Mini Mart, 30-32 Center St., for a retail theft incident at 1:05 p.m. on Friday. The clerk described the suspect as a female, wearing a black shirt with the word "Pink" on it, as well as a pair of black pants. Video surveillance was reviewed.
The footage showed a woman leaning against the candy counter located across from the cash register. The woman removed a pack of Kit Kat minis and placed them in her bag. She then went to the cashier and paid for several other items, but left the store without paying for the candy. She was last observed walking to the rear of the store and crossing the railroad tracks.
An employee identified the woman as Heather Marie Willard, 29, of 107 Hunter St. When Willard was contacted she had the candy but said it was an accident.
She was transported to the police station and cited for retail theft. She appeared before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, and entered a guilty plea and was fined $50.
