Published June 20. 2015 09:00AM

Coaldale Police have filed charges in connection with an April 29 hit-and-run accident in the first block of West High Street.

Franklin J. Kunkel, 24, of 101 E. High St., Coaldale, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after blood test results indicate he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.153 percent after the 11:47 p.m. crash.

He was also charged with hit-and-run of an unattended vehicle, failure to notify police of an accident and careless driving.

The report states Kunkel was driving a Jeep Cherokee that night when he struck a parked Chevrolet Blazer. He left the scene, but drove past it a short while later, as the Chevy's owners were cleaning up the debris.

The Jeep was followed until it was parked on Third Street, which is where police found Kunkel, asleep behind the wheel.

He failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the hospital for blood work. Police filed the charges after receiving the results from the hospital. The legal BAC limit is 0.08 percent.
