Dems meet
The West End Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the West End Firehouse on 715 in Brodheadsville. Enter through the doors on the first floor.
President Julia Carter invites candidates for the election in November to come to share their vision for the West End and Monroe County.
School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Office Building in Brodheadsville.
Monroe Seniors
The Chestnuthill group of Monroe Seniors will meet Fridays and Wednesday. The menu for the offered luncheon Friday will be BBQ pork. Next Wednesday's menu has not yet been announced.
Participants are reminded to call the site manager at 570-242-6770 or 570-420-3735 by 11 a.m. a day ahead to let her know.
Intergenerational event
Mrs. Bush's, Kunkletown, is hosting an intergenerational event at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
All children are invited for an outdoor play date in the Courtyard at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home.

Open food pantry
Supplemental Food Resource Center, a ministry sponsored by Effort United Methodist Church, which feeds those in need in the West End region of the Poconos, and serves the communities of Effort, Gilbert, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. It is for families going through emergency or other short-term situations that are not eligible for local, county or state programs and is limited to a 12-week lifetime duration per family. A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required.
Community Center event
Eldred Township Community Center in Kunkletown will be the site of a community yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Sites are available by registration.
Garden tour
The Monroe County Garden Club presents its 2015 Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. This year's tour includes six lovely gardens in the West End including Gilbert, Effort, Saylorsburg as well as those with a Stroudsburg mailing address.
Tickets are needed. They are available at Trackside Station Grill and Bar (site of old Dansbury Depot) 50 Crystal St., East Stroudsburg, on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon; Chestnuthill Nursery, 1506 Route 209, Brodheadsville (outside only) on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

All Star play
The Saylorsburg Playground at 2 p.m. will be the site for the West End Little League Majors team playing against the Stroudsburg team.
At 11 a.m. the younger All Stars will be playing against the Stroudsburg team in Stroudsburg.
Coloring contest
The Western Pocono Lioness Club is again hosting its annual Patriotic Coloring Contest. It will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Park on Route 715. Other activities will be included.
Ohio help
Youth Pandas and leaders from Effort UMC are heading to yet another Reach Work Camp from June 28 to July 4. This time the work will be done in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Summer concert
The West End Park and Open Space Commission continues the summer concert series with Christina Lenway and Doug Kaetz together in concert at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville from 5-7 p.m. Sunday.
It will include contemporary favorites and original tunes as well as free ice cream sundaes.
Attendees are advised to bring a lawn chair, blanket and bug spray and enjoy an evening in the park.
Volunteer Mass
There will be a special Mass at 6 p.m. Monday for all the Queen of Peace flea market volunteers followed by light refreshments.
Mass for the ill
An Anointing of the Sick Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert at 11 a.m. Tuesday. All are welcome. A light luncheon will follow the Mass.
Library guests
As part of the Western Pocono Community Library's Summer Reading Program, members of the Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will be visiting at 1 p.m. July 1.
This program is open to all ages, so all are invited stop by and learn a little about this historical family.

Dog adoption
Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold a dog adoption day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 5 at Ace Hardware, Route 209 in Brodheadsville, next to Dunkelberger's.

Lioness board
The next meeting of the Western Pocono Lioness Club board will be at noon July 8 at Cherry's family Restaurant in Kresgeville. All members are welcome.
Animal League
The Monroe County Animal League monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Eastern Monroe County Library, Route 611/North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg.
All Monroe county animal lovers are encouraged to attend.
Deadline approaching
The West End Fair is looking for local talent to perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 23. If you can sing, dance, do comedy, tumble, juggle or Magic and would like to perform for your community, now is your chance to be on stage.
First-place winners will receive $250 and perform on the Main Stage at 7 p.m. Aug. 29. Second place will receive $150, and third $100.

Wheels for Meals
The second annual car show, to benefit Meals on Wheels organizations of Monroe and Northampton counties will be held at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert on July 25. The rain date is July 26.
It is being presented by Easton Area Corvette Club, Hi-Winders, Trolley Shops Cruisers and The Monroe County Cruisers Car Club.
The day includes: dash plaques and goodie bags to the first 100 cars, awards, food, drinks, door prizes, tricky tray, and entertainment by Funtime Entertainment Karaoke DJ.
Garden news
The Garden of Giving is celebrating much good news, including the earlier Fill the Truck event at the Brodheadsville Tractor Supply Company, which garnered 57 bags of feed, almost double the goal of 30.
Also donated were other supplies for the chickens as well as 10 percent of the sales from TSC.
Staff is also grateful for the 60 volunteers who came to help on a recent weekend. Almost 1,800 tomato, zucchini, eggplant, red and green pepper, cucumber, basil, corn, green bean and parsley seedlings were planted.
The goal is to provide fresh produce and eggs to 10 Monroe County food banks throughout the growing season. Currently asparagus and eggs are being distributed, and the onions and garlic that were planted in early spring will be harvested in July.
The Garden thanks Daisy Troop 812 and its leaders, DaVita Healthcare Partners and Sean Manear from Troop 103 for their time and contributions.
Much gratitude goes to Candace, who has "held the fort down" in the office for the past several years. She is leaving but the time and energy she has given the garden is greatly appreciated.
The Garden of Giving is a great place for people and groups to learn and have fun while giving to their community. There is always a need for chicken feed and volunteers to help with the chickens, in the office, on the website, on the board and at fundraising events.
