Giveaway at St. John's begins Thursday

The Lutheran Church of St. John in the Heights will open its doors to begin its annual giveaway on Thursday and will continue through Aug. 23.

All are welcome to partake of the free clothing, shoes, boots, winter coats, dress suits, linens, baby items and small household items.

All items are free.

"A large amount of donations poured in this year and the workers of the church have been busy sorting, sizing and stacking the mountains of clothing and other items," says Bonnie Hoffman, one of the organizers from the church.

"We have been serving the public with this ministry for over 15 years and it grows larger each year. Donations have been pouring in and we serve hundreds of people, not just in Jim Thorpe, but the surrounding areas."

Hoffman says there is a genuine need locally and the church tries to help fulfill that need.

Church members and the community have been generous in their donations of gently used and new clothing and household items each year, and this year has been no exception.

Hours are as follows:

• 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 7, Aug. 14 and Aug. 21

• 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 8, Aug. 15 and Aug. 22

• 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 9, Aug. 16 and Aug. 23

All items remaining after the event are donated to other ministries, missions or shelters.

St. John's is located at 319 South Ave. in the Heights section of Jim Thorpe.
