Bears remain perfect in volleyball
Pleasant Valley's volleyball team got a test, but remain undefeated with a win, while both Palmerton and Northwestern's girls soccer teams triumphed with some huge shutouts.
Northwestern also won in field hockey and boys soccer, while Tamaqua and Marian picked up some down-to-the-wire golf victories.
VOLLEYBALL
Freedom-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley remains undefeated in the early going thanks to a 25-15, 12-25, 25-22, 25-18 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Freedom.
Bridget Lozier paced the Bears with a career-high 20 kills and five blocks, while Alli Markowski dished out 18 assist, nine digs and five kills.
Kiersten Griesback chipped in with 15 assists, while Noel Kelly (9 kills, 4 blocks) and Sara Kron (5 kills, 2 blocks) for the Bears.
JIm Thorpe-Sch. Haven
The Hurricanes handed the Olympians a 3-0 loss by scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-22 in non-league action.
Tori Pascucci was the big star for Schuylkill Haven wity 22 service points, five blocks and three aces.
Haven also won the JV game.
BOYS SOCCER
Wilson-Northwestern
Northwestern cruised to a 7-1 Colonial League win over Wilson.
Brandon Herb and JD Haaf both scored two goals to lead the Tigers' offense in the win. Daniel Hallingstad, Dominic Mertz and Meyers all added a goal, as well.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Two first half goals was all Catasauqua needed to score a 2-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton.
Nick Rossnagle and Majed Salama posted the goals for the Roughies, while Dave Wetherhold and Stone Vassa added the assists.
The Bombers' keeper Rich Roselli finished with 11 saves.
Northern Lehigh-Palisades
Palisades blanked Northern Lehigh for a 4-0 Colonial League victory.
Cooper Moyer scored a hat trick for the Pirates, while teammate Jason Gehman added the other score.
Tyler Andre recorded two assists, while Mike Guarino and Colin Marsden both added single assists.
Jim Thorpe-Pottsville
Pottsville scored an unanswered goal in both halves of play to defeat Jim Thorpe, 2-0.
Tyler Wright scored both goals for the Crimson Tide in the winning effort.
Meanwhile, Carter Rodriguez stopped 13 shots on goal for the Olympians.
No. Schuylkill-Tamaqua
The Raiders scored four first half goals and never looked back in winning by a 6-1 score over the Spartans in a Schuylkill League Division I contest.
Josh Delp had two goals and an assist, Ben Miller had two goals, Riley McHugh had a goal and an assist and Roberto Borrero added theother goal for the Raiders.
Hunter Banavage had eight saves in goal for Tamaqua (4-2, 2-2).
Weatherly-Lourdes
The Red Raiders shut out the Wreckers by a 5-0 score in a Schuylkill League Division II game.

Northwestern-Wilson
Northwestern cruised to a 8-0 Colonial League win over Wilson.
Rachel Fisher sparked the Tigers' attack with a hat trick and an assist, while Angela Motolese added two goals and two assists.
Sarah Segan recorded two goals and an assist, while Sabrina Mertz posted a goal and an assist. McKenzi Divers and Zoe Strickland both finished with an assist.

Palisades came out on top with a 4-0 Colonial League victory over visiting Northern Lehigh.
Amanda Nickles posted two goals for the Pirates, while Kayla Reed and Annie Lodwig added singles scores.
Tamaqua-Hazleton
Hazleton scored first and never looked back on its way to a 3-1 win non-conference win over Tamaqua.
Abby Sechse and Nancy Cruz recorded first half goals for the Cougars, while Madison Palumbo finished off the scoring with a goal in the second half.
Monica Shimko scored the Blue Raiders' lone goal.
Carly Sassaman recorded 14 saves in front of the Raiders' net.
Catasauqua-Palmerton
Palmerton scored frequently throughout its 10-0 shutout of Catasauqua in their Colonial League soccer game.
Monica Wood scored four goals and assisted two other scores in a noteworthy performance. Johanna Matsko pulled off a hat trick in the game, as well. Brianna Doherty scored twice and fed two teammates for scores, while Jenna Blynn chipped in a goal, to boot. Kaylee Haskins had an assist, while Jaclyn Wood had two feeds, as well.

Ryan Krechel helped spark his Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg squad to a 411-414 victory over Pleasant Valley, which happens to be his father Steve Krechel's squad.
Krechel carded medalist honors with a three-over-par score of 75, while teammate Brendon Murphy followed with a 77 on the day.
Ryan Adamonis led the Bears with a 77.

Tamaqua pulled off a sweep in both boys and girls non-league action.
In the boys race the Raiders edged the Bears 27-29 and Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech 21-38.
Andrew Tite (19:13) and Raymond Kinder (19:33) finished third and fifth, respectively for the Raiders on the boys side.
Adam Bahrey won the race in 18:59 to give the Golden Bears a 24-31 victory over the Rams.
On the girls side, the Raiders won by scores of 21-34 over Mahanoy and 15-50 over CMVT.
Tamaqua's Nicole Wasserleben finished first with a time of 22:09.
