Night out

The Tamaqua Safety Initiative is organizing events for National Night Out, an effort to help fight crime on America's streets. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 5, with most activities planned for the area near the Tamaqua Art Center at 125 Pine St.

Entertainment will be provided by "Original Sounds." To date, 15 organizations have indicated they will be taking part in the event.

The Tamaqua Salvation Army will be conducting a Kidz Karnival, from 2 to 9 p.m. that day at the North Railroad Street parking lot.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on July 16 at the Tamaqua Salvation Army.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood.

Walk-ins are welcome and appointments may be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or online at www.redcrossblood.org.

Dear Tamaqua

The next "Dear Tamaqua" Write Night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 8 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center at 125 Pine St.

"Dear Tamaqua" is a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Tamaqua Safety Initiative. It was launched to encourage community-wide pride, focusing on Tamaqua's unique identity.

Residents are encouraged to share thoughts and stories of the community through written word, original music, video, poetry, visual art, etc.

Material for the project may be submitted in any medium that communicates a personal memory, a unique Tamaqua experience, or hope for the future.

All submissions will be accepted, reviewed and archived for future generations.

Submissions may be mailed to Tamaqua Safety Initiative, c/o Dear Tamaqua, 125 Pine St., Tamaqua, PA 18252. Electronic submissions may be entered through the project website at www.deartamaqua.com.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes, for all ages, will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., GriefShare at 10 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Trail Talks at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Applications are now available for the Valley Christian Preschool.

A Faith Night at the Phillies is planned for July 24.

Calvary Methodist

This Sunday marks the beginning of Summer Tabernacle events for members of Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. All events from now until Labor Day will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle at 614 Valley Road. The Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday.

An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
