Flower show in Bethlehem this weekend
The Bethlehem Garden Club's Annual Standard Flower Show will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a Roaring 20s theme at the Hotel Bethlehem, 437 Main St. in Bethlehem.
The show is a competition among area floral designers and horticulturalists and is judged by accredited flower show judges.
Three Divisions (Horticulture, Design and Special Exhibits) will showcase 74 horticulture classes; 10 design classes (vignettes, table artistry, still life, spatial thrust, topiary designs and 5-inch miniatures); and nine special exhibits.
The annual event attracts over 1,000 visitors on average.
Highlights include:
• As part of the Roaring 20s theme a 1922 Silver Cloud Rolls-Royce will be on display in the front of Hotel Bethlehem; a member of the club and her dance partner will present their dance interpretation of the theme in the hotel lobby on Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.; author and collector Ellie Laubner will share Fashions of the Roaring 20s in an exhibit in the hotel lobby.
• A display created by the new Kids Program with Calypso Elementary School
• A display of Horticulture Therapy works by residents of Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Fountain Hill
• Guided walks though the award-winning Miller's House Garden, an 1870 period garden, which the club designed and planted in 1983 and continues to maintain.
The hotel will offer Roaring 20s-themed beverages along with specialty themed menus for lunch and dinner in The Tap Room and 1741 on the Terrace.
