Night out
The Tamaqua Safety Initiative is organizing events for National Night Out, an effort to help fight crime on America's streets. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, with most activities planned for the area near the Tamaqua Art Center at 125 Pine St.
Entertainment will be provided by "Original Sounds." To date, more than 20 organizations have indicated they will be taking part in the event.
The Tamaqua Salvation Army will be conducting a Kidz Karnival, from 2 to 9 p.m. that day at the North Railroad Street parking lot.
Soup social
Monthly soup socials are held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. The free event is part of Trinity's monthly "Feeding the Hungry" program.
Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.
Middle school news
Christopher Czapla, principal of the Tamaqua Area Middle School has announced an orientation session for students new to the school will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18.
Parents of sixth-graders, as well as seventh- and eighth-graders new to the district, are welcome to attend.
Information will be presented on student schedules, activities, facilities and discipline.
Individuals will meet in the school district auditorium, then have the opportunity to tour the building accompanied by student guides. Information will be provided on student schedules and activities, facilities and discipline. For those unable to attend, orientation notes will be available on the middle school's website.
Homeroom assignments will be posted on the school's front/main door as of Aug. 4.
Tamaqua PTO
The Tamaqua PTO meeting will be held at Rosemount Camping Resort pavilion at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 5. Plans for the fifth-grade end of the year dance in 2014-2015 will be discussed. All parents welcome.
The first Tamaqua PTO meeting will be held in the Tamaqua Elementary School library at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 12.
Calvary Methodist
The Rev. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will be entitled "Where are life's boundaries." Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Following the morning service will be the annual Sunday school picnic. Bring something to share with everyone.
