to School
Pleasant Valley High School in Brodheadsville will celebrate Back to School Night today, beginning at 6 p.m.
PVI PAC meets
The PVI PAC meeting will be held from 3-4 p.m. Thursday in the PVI cafeteria.
Board of Education
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Center in Brodheadsville.
Monroe Seniors
Monroe Seniors will meet at 9 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville in the fellowship room.
The group meets each Wednesday and Friday unless it is a holiday or the weather makes traveling difficult.
Red Cross blood drive
A blood drive will take place at the American Legion Post Home from 1-6 p.m. Friday.

Cub pack sign-up
Pack recruitment night for Pack 98 is from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.
All boys from first to fifth grade are invited to join, as are parents, who are needed as volunteers.
Animal blessing
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a special pet blessing at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Bring your pet, large or small, to the front of the church by the Jesus statue. Leashes, crates or carriers would be helpful if needed for the pet's control.
Saturday movie
The Western Pocono Community Library's movie time continues to feature the late Robin Williams. This Saturday at 1 p.m., the featured film, shown in the community room, will be "Mrs. Doubtfire" (PG-13).
Garden's harvest
The Garden of Giving in McMichaels has been busy harvesting such items as organic eggplant, green peppers, parsley, basil, raspberries, green beans and also eggs for local food pantries.
A volunteer work day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday. Anyone interested in helping can call 570-402-1282. Also ahead is the garlic planting set for Oct. 18 and 19. The garlic will be harvested next year.

Continued celebration
McMichaels UMC is celebrating 150 years of ministry this month. The celebration, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, will include honoring the church's senior members, 80 years and older, with a small gift.
The church will be putting together a time capsule and placing it in the basement to be opened in 25 years. Included will be advertisements on current movies, sale prices, car prices, house prices, art from the children, and special notes, along with various anniversary bulletins and United Methodist newsletters.
The Rev. Edward A. Unangst is supplying the refreshments after the worship, and his sermon will be on his favorite food, the humble hot dog.

CW United meets
Church Women United of Monroe will hold a business meeting at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg. Participants are asked to use the back entrance and meet in the church's library room.
Nomination forms are now available for the CWU Margaret Wyckoff Wells award, presented to a woman who has been outstanding in her outreach to the community. The deadline is Oct. 24. For more information, call 570-629-0649.
Gardeners for Glory
Effort UMC's Gardeners for Glory will hold its last official work day at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. It is also the general church cleanup day.
Food pantry hours
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. This church ministry is to help feed families going through emergency or other short-term situations who are not eligible for local, county or state programs. It is limited to a 12-week duration per family. Required is a valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End.
Bereavement Group
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has a bereavement group. It will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the rooms next to the Chapel (114A & B). The support group is free and open to anyone in the community who is dealing with the loss of a loved one.
KSH meets
The Keep Sunday Holy ecumenical group met on Sept. 18. It will next meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 16, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cafe (Chapel entrance) in Gilbert. Already comprising six West End churches, the group hopes to grow as it formulates its mission statement and reviews how to inform the community of its goals.
