Lioness events
On Thursday the Western Pocono Lioness Club will be meeting at Getz Personal Care Home to help Santa hand out presents and sing carols.
On Saturday the service club will be meeting at the Buck Wha Pub in Kunkletown at 1 p.m for the group's Christmas luncheon.
Rotary speaker
The West End Rotary Club will welcome Eric McWhirler of MCW Custom Woodcraft at this Thursday's breakfast meeting. The club meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.
Due to the Christmas holiday, the club will not meet on Dec. 25.
Zion Seniors
The December meeting of Zion Seniors is at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church's fellowship hall.
West End Little League
The next West End Little League meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Park Building.
Managers and coaches are encouraged to attend. Team parents and members of the league are welcome.
PAC meeting
The Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PAC meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday.
School board meets
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Building in Brodheadsville.
Ugly sweaters
celebrated
Ugly Christmas Sweater Day will be celebrated Friday at Pleasant Valley High School.
At the Pleasant Valley Elementary School, Friday is Hat Day and/or Ugly Holiday Sweater Day.
Senior meals
The Chestnuthill Seniors meet in Zion Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall and the menu is roast turkey on Friday and quiche next Wednesday.
Seniors are reminded to call the site manager at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. a day before.
Christmas concert
"Images of Adoration, Reflections of Christ in Symbols of the Season," will be presented at St. Matthew's UCC in Kunkletown at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Effort UMC will host the second performance of the cantata presented by a combined choir under the direction of Dan Smale at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Christmas program
The Sunday school Christmas program at Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will be part of the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.
That service will be followed by a Christmas tea, which will be followed by decorating the church for Christmas.
Christmas pageant
McMichaels UMC will have a Christmas pageant with the youth this Sunday with Joel Ivins leading the program with the children and some of the congregation.
There will be no Sunday school.
Proud Lions
The Western Pocono Lions Club is happy with the Leos at Pleasant Valley High School. The Leos have collected five pickup loads of food and about 60 turkeys to give to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network. Members have also collecting coats for people in need.
The Lions Club lauds the Leos school adviser Melissa Dennis for her leadership and guidance.
Dog Adoption
Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold dog adoption days from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Tractor Supply, Route 209, Brodheadsville.
Safe Haven will have many young dogs available. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit before adoption.

Lessons and carols
Our Lady Queen of Peace music ministry presents a ceremony of lessons and carols at 7 p.m. Sunday. Light refreshments to follow in McCawley Hall.
Advent Prayer Service
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold an Advent evening prayer service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel.
Jonas blood drive
Getz Personal Care Home will be the site for an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 27.

Pleasant Valley
Presbyterian
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, will begin its Christmas Eve service with special music and carols at 6:45 p.m.
The service will include a Christmas choir and candle lighting. Light refreshments will follow. Everyone is invited to come and join in celebrating this special and holy night.
Free dinner
A family friendly New Year's Eve will be offered at Christ Hamilton United Lutheran Church on Dec. 31 beginning at 6 p.m. with dinner. There is no charge for the dinner, but there will be a collection box for donations that will benefit PVEN for its food pantry ministry.
