Garden club
The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its annual Christmas party as part of the regular December meeting. During a short business session, the group approved making a donation to Peter and Ida Kutash, MaryD fire victims.
Members brought covered dishes to share, while Evelyn Adams and Louise Flexer were in charge of the program.
The arrangement for the evening was to create something all white, with no green showing. Winners were Evelyn Adams and Mary Bridygham.
A planning meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 19, at the home of Kathy McGee. The next regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on March 24 in the social hall of Zion's Church of the Lewistown Valley.
Tax office
Tamaqua Tax Collector Pamela McCullion has announced additional office hours before the end of the tax year. In addition to the regular hours posted on your tax bills, McCullion's office will be open from 4 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 30 and from 9-11 a.m. on Dec. 31. Regular office hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays.

Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Dec. 18 with 59 members attending. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.
Nancy Gerber provided an inspirational reading, "God Is Guiding Me." A moment of silence was held for Marian Harpin. Ruth Kemmerer was added to the sick list. The meeting included a celebration for members with birthdays in November and December. The meeting concluded with refreshments, cards and social games.
The seniors meet every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge on Route 54 (East) in Hometown. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 8.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.
St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ.
