Soup social

Monthly soup socials are held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 1. The free event is part of Trinity's monthly "Feeding the Hungry" program.

Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met Oct. 16 with 62 members in attendance. Two new members, Carol and David Faust, were given a warm welcome.

President Melody Weicker conducted the business session. Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading, "God's World." Treasurer Penny Schlorf resigned her position and Norma Lee Burke was nominated to fill the role.

The Thursday meeting will include a pizza party.

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.

The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the Masonic Lodge on Route 54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Good News Club meets at 3:45 p.m. at the South Ward Playground, Smart Stepfamily Growth Group meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Psalms Growth group meets at 1 p.m. at the Majestic House, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m.

Zion Lutheran

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church offers a Saturday worship service. The contemporary-style service is held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall.

This week's service will be followed by a time of food and fellowship. A free light lunch will be offered.

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a praise service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A time of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the home of Carl and Marge Heisler.

Rally Day will be celebrated on Nov. 2. The morning worship service will include special music and puppets. At 6:30 p.m., the Cooley Family will share their musical talents.
