Tree lighting

The Nesquehoning Lions Club has received the town's first community Christmas tree and has planted it in the St. Patrick Cemetery.

The official first lighting of the new community tree will be held at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

The public is encouraged to come out for the event.

VFW Auxiliary

Christmas party

The annual Christmas Party of the Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Lengyel's Restaurant.

A brief business meeting will be held, followed by dinner.

All members are welcome to attend.

Senior Center

The following are a listing of upcoming activities at the Panther Valley Senior Center, 90 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.

All activities begin at 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

Exercise is Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning at 10 a.m.

Thursday: Women's pool, men's cards

Friday: Tony Orlando Christmas Show, 10 a.m. Maple Shade. Center closed

Monday: Scattergories

Tuesday: Sunshine meeting at 10 a.m., pay bingo at 11 a.m.

Dec. 10: Christmas shopping at 9:30 a.m., CCCT

Dec. 11: Speaker from Arcadia

Dec. 12: Cookie baking

Lansford

St. John's

Wednesday evening service at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, 7 p.m., Holden Evening Prayer Service with Holy Communion. For those who wish to come early, a free, simple supper will be served at 6 p.m. and a brief Bible study is held at 6:30 p.m.

Service will not be held if school is canceled or dismissed early due to bad weather on Wednesdays.

Book sale

Panther Valley High School's sophomore class is having a book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Panther Valley Middle School cafeteria.

There are thousands of books from all genres (children, romance, best-sellers, etc.) Most book will be $1 or less.
