Holiday concert
The Tamaqua Senior High School Music Department will present its annual holiday music program this Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature the student Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, senior high Wind Ensemble and the Raider Concert Band. It will conclude with a sing-along.
Accompanists for the choir are Sierra Petrucci, Faith Roberts and Patrick McMullen.
The band and wind ensemble are under the direction of Mark Beltz, while the concert choir and jazz chorale are under the direction of John Buglio.
Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.
Advent breakfast
The Tamaqua High School Jazz Chorale will be the special musical guest at the Fourth Annual Tamaqua Community Advent Breakfast, which will be held Saturday.
Sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership and the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, this year's event will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenwood and Mauch Chunk streets.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will include breakfast by Zion's Culinary Crew, special music, an Advent message provided by the Rev. Virginia Goodwin and a candle lighting ceremony. Luminaria kits will be available. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m.
The event is modeled after a 49-year tradition held in Bethlehem.

Board of Health
The December meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with James Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker and Matthew Myers, health enforcement officer, in attendance.
Myers provided a report for November, which indicated three properties were condemned as unfit for human habitation. Other complaints included one leaking sewer and four animal waste. There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.
The board meets the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 7.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school will meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the membership class will meet with Pastor Roberts at 9:15 a.m.; local conference, ministry council and nominating committees will all meet at 11:45 a.m.; Christmas service at Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise will be held at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Christmas caroling to the shut-ins at 1 p.m., Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9 a.m., kids music practice for Christmas Eve at 10:30 a.m.
